My previous post I mentioned that I am interested in these numbers and they do persuade me. I want to comment though that as with any skill, you can only put so much stock into these numbers. They are only part of the equation and maybe at best they can be used to decide between a deadlock.
Players that I think take a hit to their value because they come in shorter than teams would like.
- Darrell Arthur, 6'7.5”
- Joey Dorsey, 6' 6.25"
- Kevin Love, 6' 7.75"
- Donte Green, 6' 8.25"
- Davon Jefferson, 6' 5.25"
I'm especially concerned with Love's measurements. Any notion of him playing center is gone and his mobility has always been in question. He came in near the bottom of the class with his 12.9% body fat. I am not sure he's athletic enough for the pro PF spot or big enough for the C spot. Dorsey's height is disappointing but his long wingspan and above average vertical help. I think that he'll probably drop to early second round though. He just comes in a little to short to excite me.
Guys that I think either helped or solidified their positions are as follows:
- Joe Alexander
- Jerryd Bayless
- Eric Gordon
- Brook Lopez
- OJ Mayo
- Anthony Randolph
I am seriously impressed with Joe Alexander's numbers! He is the real deal and I think he'll be a really good pro. OJ Mayo was impressive with his vertical but I was a bit disappointed with his height. If he was 6'5” he would be a lock at #3. Eric Gordon, though he looks a bit pudgy, displays impressive numbers. 40” vertical and above average bench reps for a guard. He is a little short though at 6'2”, but his 6'9” wingspan makes up for it. Lopez is a legit 7 footer so that has to help his stock. Anthony Randolph displayed the expected low body fat but appears to be a solid 6'10” and has a 7'3” wingspan. His 35 inch vertical ranks really high for someone as tall as him.
In summary you can only use these numbers to supplement the information on the players. I'm glad to see that a few of the prospects that the Wolves can bring in at #3 showed some good numbers. Most notably Anthony Randolph, OJ Mayo, Jerryd Bayless, and Brook Lopez and possibly Eric Gordon. All we can do is speculate.
